Vilim Toplak was born in Zagreb. He spent a significant part of his life in Slovenia, stretched between Maribor and Kranjska gora, where he also had his own gallery for several years. Vilim Toplak’s oeuvre includes motifs from Ljubljana, Piran, Kranjska gora, as well as luxurious still lifes with lush flowers and hunting trophies. In his motifs he likes to take us to the sea , where small fishing boats are lurking in front of us and small houses are shining in the ports. He prefers painting with oil paints, which he applies to the canvas with short, impulsive strokes. When we look at his paintings up close, we get the feeling that the entire surface of the painting vibrates, and when viewed from afar, the strokes merge with each other and the motif shines in front of us in all its beauty. Vilim Toplak remains faithful to the realistic way of painting.
